Stupid POS first gen iMac (+wiimotes now look even more goofy)

October 02, 2007 By: Judy Category: Randomness, Video Games

A couple weeks ago, the iMac was having issues turning on. More issues than usual turning on, I mean. Before I mentioned that you can turn it on during some mystery period after 5PM. However, even after 5PM, it didn’t always turn on. Kelvin eventually gave in and let the iMac be on for days at a time. I thought this would solve our problem. Unfortunately, last Saturday, we came home to a dead iMac. The alarm clock wasn’t flashing “12:00″, so we know there wasn’t a power outage. The iMac just shut off on its own… and now we can’t turn it back on. So I’m posting this message from work; I need to remember to bring my work laptop home if I want to surf internet. (Kelvin is still being anal-retentive and won’t let me touch his Macbook Pro, despite it also being a POS first gen Apple product.) Still waiting on a good desktop deal for my mom so I can steal the laptop back from her.

To all the Wii owners out there: In case you haven’t heard yet, from October 15th and on, Nintendo is starting to package Wii remotes with silicone “jackets”:

Despite all the media coverage of broken straps (Nintendo replacing straps not once, but TWICE), broken TVs and windows, and people smacking each other from wiimote usage, people still can’t figure out that in a match of Wii remote vs. anything, Wii remote will win. Nintendo is continuing to protect its customers from their own stupidity by providing these goofy looking jacket thingies for free. Click here to get your free jackets from Nintendo. Having witnessed some close calls with our own TV and seeing Naomi get bonked on the head with one before, it’s not a bad idea to have some around for less experienced Wii players.

I enjoyed today’s Smash Bros update: Snake stage plus miscellaneous Snake movies. It’s great to hear David Hayter as Snake again, and it sounds like they got all the original voice actors for the other characters as well. The voice acting is a bit over the top (even for MGS), but I know I giggled a little each time Col. Campbell and Snake said “fart”. And LOL at Snake for checking out Zero Suit Samus and wanting to eat Yoshi.

New thing I learned today: 1-Click (AKA one-click buying) is a patent held by Amazon. Apparently, nobody can use 1-click buying without paying Amazon. Amazon licensed out 1-click to Apple, which is why iTunes has 1-click button to immediately buy and download the song.
