I’ve been wanting this warning label for years

September 23, 2008 By: Judy Category: Randomness

When I was first interviewed for the job I currently have now about 3.5 years ago, I was given a tour of the test floor, which has all sorts of testing equipment. One of my lasting impressions of my first visit there was this warning label on one of those machines:

I finally got the guts to violate corporate policy and take a camera phone picture of it last week. Only took me THREE years :P I asked one of the test floor guys if he’d thought I’d get in trouble, and he just laughed at me. (You can see his reflection in the picture.)

New thing I learned today: There are three levels of warning: CAUTION (could be dangerous and might result in minor or moderate injury), WARNING (could be dangerous and might result in serious injury or even death), and DANGER (is dangerous and will result in serious injury or death).

LEGO Batman toys at McD’s = Filet o’ Fish for lunch next 8 weeks

September 16, 2008 By: Judy Category: Toys, Video Games

legobatman_happymeal.jpg

Saw this on GoNintendo last week. I’m actually semi-excited for LEGO Batman (I mean, it’s LEGOs and Batman!!!), so I’m excited for these toys as well. I’m not excited for eating McDonald’s at least once week for the next 8 weeks (well, I guess I technically don’t have to, but since I’m there anyway), and I think it’s lame that these LEGO toys are even stinking LEGOs. Their limbs are contorted, and I doubt they can be taken apart. Despite this, I’m still sold on them. As the weeks go on, I’ll make sure to update this post with pics as soon as I get some toys.

Edited 9/17 to add: WTF, the McDs by work sells toys individually for a $2.39!!! What a stinkin’ ripoff! I think the most expensive Burger King toys I’ve gotten in the past were $1.50 (but most places were $.99), and BK has way better quality toys. I mean, for 10 cents more at McDs, you get a burger, small fries, and sippy cup drink. I, of course, am now getting Happy Meals in conjunction with my Filet o’ Fishes, tho I’m splurging an extra $1 to get chicken nuggets and not have to eat their disgusting burgers. Bleh. At least they’ve switched back to cardboard boxes for the Happy Meals.

Tina Fey for Vice President!

September 15, 2008 By: Judy Category: Randomness, Television

The current state of politics, particularly with the addition of Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket, is a big bummer in all seriousness, but the silver lining is that it makes for great comedic material. I’ve been particularly enjoying the stuff coming from The Daily Show, especially Sarah Palin Gender Card and Bristol Palin’s Choice. The opening of last Saturday’s SNL, however, really takes the cake, mainly because of Tina Fey’s incredibly awesome impersonation of Sarah Palin.

You know what’s even funnier? This statement in response to the skit from one of John McCain’s top aides Carly Fiorina:

“The portrait was very dismissive of the substance of Sarah Palin, and so in that sense, they were defining Hillary Clinton as very substantive, and Sarah Palin as totally superficial,” Fiorina told MSNBC earlier Monday. “I think that continues the line of argument that is disrespectful in the extreme, and yes, I would say, sexist in the sense that just because Sarah Palin has different views than Hillary Clinton does not mean that she lacks substance.”

OMG LOL. Methinks someone doesn’t get the joke or the word “sexism“. Man, women are so dumb.

We officially have guest at our wedding!

September 14, 2008 By: Judy Category: Shopping, Wedding

We finally, FINALLY finished invitations this weekend. A lot of good that Monday off did me; I’m like almost a week behind schedule. It’s okay tho, as I believe we’re still within the traditional timeframe of 6-8 weeks. We sent our first batch Friday to friends and relatives that are either further away or we don’t see as often, and today we sent the last of them. (With the exception of three invitations of people who really need to give us their addresses. *ahem*ERIC*cough*) I’ll go into greater detail about invitations once more people have had a chance to receive them. I’m quite happy with them.

The last batch of invites, including the bundles heading for Taiwan

I’m not off the hook yet tho. I have quite a few of things I still need to work on for the wedding (ceremony music, name cards, accessories, booze), with the most urgent being the working on my wedding webpage. And I’m not going to link it yet since it’s still majorly under construction, but the website is at least functional, with the most important functional function being the RSVP feature. I am so, SO grateful that someone has already developed a WordPress plugin for RSVPs. It’s called the Google Docs RSVP Guestlist Plugin, and it uses a Google Docs spreadsheet, which I thought was interesting. The plugin could still use more features and allow more customization, but at the moment, it seems quite functional. The fact it uses Google spreadsheets makes it easy to tally the attendance and edit people’s entries. I had to modify it a little bit to fit our needs, so we’ll see up to the wedding if anything breaks. So far tho, it has been a great timesaver. We even got our first RSVP today! (Yay! ONE guest!) I guess the wedding’s officially on now. Scary!

Now that invites are out and we’ve got hits on the wedding website, Kelvin and I checked out Bed, Bath & Beyond today to attempt to fill out the registry. I could do without a registry, but I’ve been told that sometimes traditional American guests are totally lost without one. We ran around with the scan gun and managed to find some items, but it’s still iffy, especially with the stuff Kelvin was putting on there. (1000-thread count sheets… I mean, really?) At least it’s more than 4 items now.

Kelvin with the scan gun at BB&B a couple months ago,
when we only managed to scan two flatware sets

Anyway, with invites done, I should have more time to post again. Apologies for the lack of content the last couple weeks.

New thing I learned today: The higher the thread count for the down comforter, the more dense the fabric is and the less likely down feathers will pop out of the comforter. Also, many down comforters come with warranties that range from 10-years to lifetime.

Here is a peek at what I’m spending most of today and tomorrow (yes, I’m taking a day off work… I really needed a break from work anyway) doing:
